The Wryters' Block

Shaping, Designing, Sculpting Words

I Believed

Someone once told me that my eyes were magical.
When I glanced into the mirror,
I saw the magic there.pink-rose-flowers-32155893-1024-768

He said my smile was sweet.
When I gazed at my reflection,
My lips looked full and soft
Like fresh, ripe strawberries,
Delicious enough to eat.

My teeth gleamed pearly white.
My hair sparkled with sunshine.
My cheeks blushed a radiant pink.
I was beautiful, he said,
And when I stared at myself,
I thought I saw beauty there.

Imagine my surprise, however,

When I discovered
That the man was blind.
Slowly, I hung my head in shame –
Ashamed of believing.

  3. As a visually impaired person, we see beauty beyond what our eyes can convey. This poem truly made my day.

    • Thanks very much for your comment! 🙂 It is appreciated. I always enjoy your posts. Being able to travel, enjoy the sights, sounds, and foods of other places must bring tremendous joy. Since I can’t really afford to do so, it’s great that you share that experience through words and pictures with all of us!

      • Thank you for the compliment. Travel is a big part of our life, even though we aren’t exactly rich. We save our money and spend wisely. While we splurge on trips, we don’t spend on clothes, concerts, pro-sports games, or new cars. Afford Anything is a blog that has inspired us.
