Writing

No one ever said writing was easy.

I’ve written the lightning draft of a novel. I know what I need to do – reread, edit, cut, revise . . ., but my fingers refuse to work, and I swear, my brain is not cooperating.

Gone

One day he was there;

The next, he was gone.

I missed his boots, his shirt, his letters, his voice . . .

I missed him.

His leaving left a hole in my heart,

One that never mends –

That hurts.

Writers Are Weird

Perhaps to a non-writer, writers appear weird. We writers tend to have unusual habits that others may even call loony. See my checklist below to see if you share any of my writing nuances.

I . . .

1. Wake up in the middle of the night, thinking about my characters.
2. Climb out of bed to jot down an idea, lest I forget by morning.
3. Have happy fingers that long to touch the keyboard as soon as I wake.
4. Talk to characters.
5. Hear characters talk in my head.
6. Through conversations, allow characters

Distant Memory

Sometimes when gentle rain falls,

When lazy days stretch and yawn,

My mind sifts

Back to a distant time –

A time when there was you

and laughter

and hope

and joy.

But like all things that pass

When truth does not prevail,

You’re just a piece of HISTORY –

A MEMORY that will not last.

My Favorite Things: My Beautiful Grand-daughter and Excerpt from Perfect Love

“Once upon a time,” Will began, “there lived the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world. She had the most beautiful mom of all the other moms. Her dad wasn’t really that handsome, but he had this great, great love for his daughter. Every night before his daughter crept into bed, she had to have cookies and milk to help her fall asleep. It didn’t matter if it was an Oreo, Vanilla wafers, or any other kind, as long as it was a cookie.”

He continued, “On one particular night at her bedtime, her poor old father didn’t have a single cookie in the cupboard to give to his darling daughter. In fact, there was not a single cookie or cookie crumb anywhere to be found in their entire house. The beautiful girl cried and cried

Time

Sometimes in life, we try to scale mountains.

Leap across seas.

But there’s a time and a place for all things.

Sometimes we just need to breathe.

We think we can walk before we crawl.

We want to prove manhood and womanhood before the time is right.

We want it all now – what life can offer.

But there’s a time and a place for all things.

Sometimes we just need to WAIT.
